Moon Rain
there’s a stain
on the corporation of your chest
a vest
me and you wearing it
aligned in separate locations
the question of whose it will become
but for now me and you wearing it
like we’re kids again half defined
as the moon’s singular light cries
in our empty shoes and eyes
in a billion similar ways
shawls of fish in the ocean’s crushing sugars
I took my feet out of it all
just so the moon had something evenly empty
to stare into
next shall I take my heart
out my ribs?
shall I undress my lungs and
lay them on the mannequins
of the pebbles
so they’re wearing a bracelet and a cape
shall I take loving anxious guts
from the rippling cove
of my many phases of stomach
you know all my guts could ever do
was get close to feeling in love
they touched it like fish
tearing at someone’s unkept toes
taking away only what was already dead
the rooftiles tonight have a crush on them
on us
they absorb the tenderness of distance
the tenderness of trying
the tenderness of being burnt slowly and alive
by unspoken longing
by longing that can’t be heard
even if spoken
and there is a dog beyond us in the dark
as we begin kissing
dying before a car’s poised gears
the man’s hand
has just been let down
so its mind can comprehend and
the radio grid is playing always unfinished songs
the bonnet beholds to other headlights
a pop of blood and
the tyres are worn from driving
through the moonlight on the tar and
through the momentary surfaces of rain
